I realize this is kind of late, but we crocheted a little Bobak Ferdowsi, better known as the mohawk guy at NASA! You know, for science.
Homestuckers, rejoice! I don’t follow Homestuck very closely, but I got a commission for a Sollux Captor, so here you go! Sollux is actually somewhat top-heavy, because the hair is the heaviest part of the whole doll. :P I’m still not satisfied with how un-spiky it is, but that’s okay.
Also, if you were the one who commissioned Sollux, could you please step forward and claim him? Tumblr does this dumb thing where it doesn’t keep a record of messages after we’ve responded to them, so we don’t have a way to reach you! Sorry! I hope you like it.
The last team member I crocheted was actually a reference to last year’s Scavenger Hunt. One of my friends took it upon himself to perform this item:
Item 7: Send a SexySaxagram to your favorite class. [sechs sexy sax points]
Essentially, my friend burst into a Global Warming lecture wearing nothing but pants, sunglasses, a tie, and hot pink suspenders, and serenaded the entire 100-person class with a rendition of George Michael’s “Careless Whisper” on his saxophone. Footage of this glorious event can be found here.
In terms of making the amigurumi itself, HAIR IS REALLY HARD TO DO. This was my first attempt at doing hair, and I spent a desperate night trying to make it look mildly acceptable.
But when Judgment Day rolled around, the judges seemed to like my amigurumi, so I got the full 15 points. Yay Scav!
The second team member I crocheted was kind of a cop-out, because it wasn’t actually a person at all. Instead, I amigurumi’d my team’s mascot, a giant teddy bear named Fourth Captain, though my version is about 50 times smaller. (My team’s theme was Pac-Man, hence the Pac-Mans on all the shirts.)
Hey, guys! Sorry for not updating…we had finals. But that doesn’t mean we stopped crocheting in the meantime!
At our school, there’s this giant scavenger hunt, which is a big deal and a ton of fun (and very stressful too, it turns out.) One of the items on the list this year was:
Item 48: Amigurumi of three of your most recognizable team members. [15 points]
So of course, we *had* to do it. We competed for different teams, so what follows is our own individual work!
This little guy is modeled after my team’s “Scav Sheriff,” complete with hat, sheriff star, and crowbar. That beard gave me so much trouble, but for my first humanoid amigurumi, I’m pretty proud of it!
Happy Valentine’s Day from the Knot Factory! Or if you’re single, happy Singles Awareness Day! There’s no shame in being single :D
Utinni! It’s a Jawa!
